Nanowrimo/Fear

My house it engulfed with a frenzy of writing this month. My Dh and my children are busy participating in National Novel writers Month. They are so excited as their word count grows and their stories come to life. I on the other hand am content to hear about their stories, encourage them and read their offerings. Why ? because I am afraid.

So there it is. I am afraid to write. I have been afraid of it for a very long time. I feel not up to it. Like the words just fall there in an uninspired way. I have convinced myself that I just do not like to write, but really I am afraid to do it badly. I have a husband, children, a good friend who write so eloquently. They bring imagination to life and illuminate the ordinary. My words just, well don't. It is not that I have nothing to say - as thoes who know me can attest - I have no problem expressing myself with the spoken word. I think the fear comes from the pressure I put on myself. If it is written it should be important, eloquent and have a meaning worth reading. Okay even as I write that it sounds silly, but it is truly what I often feel. I am working on this fear and one of the things I have realized is that it is okay not to write. It does not make me less intelligent. It does not make my great pleasure in reading less enjoyable. It just means that this thing is not where I am focusing. I do not have to be jealous or envious of another's ability. God has given me my own gifts and I need to recognize those. It is okay to write competently and not be a wordsmith. I do not need to write a novel and I do not need to like writing stories but I do need to not be afraid of sharing what I love, what I cherish and about my faith in our glorious God.

So what this means is I hope to have more posts that I have worried less over.

Birthday Memories

My youngest Daughter has a birthday coming up next week - she will be 7 yrs old! Where did the time go? So this already had me thinking of birthdays then the Sweet shoppe blog gave a challenge to post about a birthday memory on your blog. Perfect timing! So a birthday that really stands out in my mind is one form my early childhood I was 5 yrs old and we had a huge party in our backyard. All the relatives came and I remember being hot in my long polyester dress. But that year I got soo many gifts and most of them revolved around baby dolls and house keeping play. I got a highchair and a cradle, a dustpan and broom set, some toy dishes. I was in heaven! I know we played on the big wood teeter totter we had in our yard and that I stayed up past dark - which in June can be pretty late for a 5 yr old. I also remember clearly that my Dad was there. Something that rarely happened. It is such a lovely memory. I feel blessed to have it!.

DO you like cupcakes? I love them. they are just the right size to give you a nice sugar rush and they are so darn cute as well.
My very favorite cupcakes are Vanilla with white vanilla frosting - not buttercream but the really white shortening frosting. With fine colored sugar crystals sprinkled over the top. MMMMM yummy What is your favorite?

Summer Jobs!

we where challenged to tell about our childhood summer jobs at the sweet shoppe blog.

I only had 2 summer jobs - the first was when I was 14 and I was a part time Nanny for 3 sweet kids that we had known forever - we had such a great time together and enjoyed going to the park, playing in the sprinkler , making cookies. It was a great experience.

My second summer job was actually the summer after graduation and I worked 2 jobs! I worked the night shift fulltime at the canary and then part time during the afternoons at Arby's! after about a month I quite Arby's and continued at the canary. I had alot of fun and worked along side my Best Friend Jodie.

So I am a little nerdier than I thought I would be and that sorta makes me happy. Does that make me even more nerdy?

I would love to go to Alaska!  look at that picture- so beautiful!  to take a cruise through the glaciers and hike in the wilderness.  That would just be amazing to me.  I would even love to go in the winter and see all the snow covered areas and participate in local celebrations. Dwight hates the cold so I am not sure that will happen but I would love to do it sometime!

the blog challenge for SSD is to tell about our pre teen / teen celebrity crushes. My first crush that I can remember was Scott Baio - I thought he was the cutest ever and I had pics on my wall from my Tiger Beat Mags - Yes I am that old. look at that baby face - Who couldn't love him?

Then came A-Ha - the lead singer esp. I loved their music and well look how Hot he is! hmm may need to do some itunes searching.


I had more - Jon Bon Jovi, Johnny Depp -yummy still, Kirk Cameron, Ralph Macchio but these are ones that really stand out in my memory.
